Description

The Rolls Royce Silver Dawn, introduced in 1949, was the first Rolls-Royce to feature standard steel coachwork. Sharing visual and mechanical similarities with the Bentley MKVI, it initially came with a 4257cc straight-six engine, later increased to 4566cc in 1951. It offered both four-speed manual and automatic transmissions. The front suspension was independent, while the rear used a live axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Braking was handled by servo-assisted drums on all wheels. Production of the Silver Dawn totaled 761 units before it was replaced by the Silver Cloud.

This particular 1953 Silver Dawn is a significant motor car for several reasons as it was the first home market production model and was shown on the Earls Court stand in 1953 and was the car used in road tests by both Autocar and Motor in 1953. In addition, the first owner was the famous aircraft designer and manufacturer Sir Fredrick Handley Page. So, a pretty good CV all round.

The car, well looked after by marque specialists Hillier Hill have known the car for around twenty years and have serviced it most of the time during that period.

The current owner has had the car serviced and maintained correctly during his period of ownership and has used it extensively for journeys throughout the UK.During the time that we have known the car, it has had black coachwork, but according to the build sheets was originally finished in Belco Silver.

Having purchased another classic car, the Silver Dawn is now not getting the regular use that the owner has previously enjoyed. As a consequence, he has reluctantly made the decision that it is time for the car to find a new home.
