Description

This handsome Jaguar MKII, similar to Jaguar Classic's own '63 MK2 racing at Goodwood Revival this year and originally registered as 6245 GZ on 16th June 1964 in Belfast, encapsulates the rich history and prestige of Jaguar's golden era. Remaining in Belfast until the late 1980s, this Mark II was then relocated to Scotland, where it underwent a complete body restoration in the early 1990s, changing its colour from Sand to a sleek Black.

The restoration preserved the car's integrity and it remains in outstanding condition, having been frequently used, meticulously maintained, and greatly enjoyed. The car's presentation is superb, featuring its original red leather interior and woodwork finished to an exceptionally high standard.

Enhanced with a perfectly paired Motolita steering wheel—while retaining the original—the vehicle also comes with its original green log book and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Recently, it passed an MOT with no advisories, affirming its excellent condition.

This Jaguar MKII stands as a testament to its current owner as well as the marque's enduring legacy, blending historical significance with timeless elegance.

Model History

Jaguar, a symbol of British luxury and performance, was founded in 1922 by William Lyons and William Walmsley as the Swallow Sidecar Company. Initially producing motorcycle sidecars, the company transitioned to cars in 1935 with the SS Jaguar nameplate, eventually adopting the Jaguar name after World War II to avoid associations with the SS initials.

The 1950s and early 1960s were transformative years for Jaguar, marked by technological innovation and motorsport triumphs. This era saw the introduction of the XK120, a groundbreaking sports car known for its twin-cam straight-six engine and record-breaking speed. Jaguar's reputation for combining performance with luxury continued with subsequent models like the XK140 and XK150.

In 1959, Jaguar introduced the Mark 2, a compact luxury saloon that became an icon of British motoring. The Mark 2 3.4, in particular, epitomised Jaguar's blend of style, performance, and sophistication. Powered by a 3.4-litre straight-six engine, the Mark 2 offered impressive performance for its class, making it a favourite among both racing enthusiasts and the public. Its top speed of over 120 mph and agile handling made it a formidable presence on the road and track.

The Mark 2 was renowned for its elegant design, featuring a distinctive grille, curved rear window, and luxurious wood and leather interior. It quickly became popular with high-profile figures, including police forces and criminals alike, due to its speed and agility. This dual appeal added to the Mark 2's legendary status.

Jaguar's prowess in motorsport further cemented its prestige, with significant victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans throughout the 1950s. These successes, alongside the commercial popularity of models like the Mark 2, helped establish Jaguar as a leading manufacturer of luxury and performance vehicles.
