Description

This wonderful Bentley Continental R is owned by none other than Ray Hillier of world renowned Hillier Hill Rolls Royce and Bentley Specialists of Olney. Ray has known the car for getting on for twenty years. It has always been properly serviced and extremely well looked after by the previous owners. Given the condition of the car, when it came up for sale Ray took the opportunity to buy it for himself.  Last year, the car was used for a trip to the Costa Calida in Spain and back again, during which it performed faultlessly.

The car is finished with Midnight Blue paintwork with Parchment hide upholstery with Dark Blue secondary hide and piping and Dark Blue carpets and over rugs. Soon after the car was built it went back into Jack Barclays for a series of upgrades to include Easy Entry system (raising steering wheel), lower wing vents and 17” alloy wheels. Subsequent to this a further series of subtle upgrades have been done to include, matrix grille, big bore tailpipe, wood rimmed steering wheel and gear knob and polished lower front wing vents. The car has covered 56,000 miles and will be serviced and prepared by Hillier Hill prior to sale.

The car has featured in Classic and Sportscar in an article by Martin Buckley. Private plate not included but available by seperate negotiation.

Model History

Background on Bentley

Bentley Motors, founded in 1919 by W.O. Bentley, quickly earned a reputation for producing some of the finest luxury cars in the world, known for their performance and craftsmanship. The marque became synonymous with success on the racetrack, particularly with its legendary victories at Le Mans in the 1920s. Throughout the decades, Bentley maintained its commitment to luxury and performance, evolving its models to meet the demands of discerning clientele while retaining its unique blend of refinement and power.

The early 1990s marked a significant era for Bentley with the introduction of the Continental R in 1991. The Continental R was the first Bentley in decades to feature a body not shared with a Rolls-Royce model, making it a truly distinct and modern grand tourer. Its sleek, aerodynamic design, penned by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, was a bold departure from the more conservative styling of its predecessors.

Under the hood, the Continental R was powered by a turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine, delivering an impressive 325 bhp. This allowed the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds, a remarkable feat for a vehicle of its size and luxury. The engine was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and effortless power delivery. The Continental R also featured a sophisticated suspension system designed to provide a balance between comfort and performance, making it a true driver’s car.

The Continental R was not just a statement of luxury but a symbol of Bentley’s resurgence in the modern era. It was a car that combined the traditional craftsmanship and luxury that Bentley was known for with the performance and technological advancements expected in the 1990s. The Continental R set the stage for the brand's continued success and growth into the new millennium, solidifying its position as a leader in the luxury car market.
